The Lonely Gate
It was bleak up in the hills in the middle of winter, nevertheless, l was looking for inspiration and had gone out to experience the harshness of it. I battled against the wind and the freezing conditions and watched the light break through.
It was then that I saw the lonesome gate, strategically placed for keeping the cattle in, but as I walked towards it, I heard the incredible sound of the wind blowing through the tubes producing two melancholic notes of great beauty. It seemed to me that the gate was singing!
I stood there and listened. Just the two notes alone were beautiful, however, as I turned away, leaving the gate to its lament, the sound rose to a different level, and with great effort it seemed, a much higher clearer note rang out.
So rejoice in the Lord and be glad, all you who obey him! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!
This gate was beautiful. It was in its place, doing what it was purposed for and despite being quite alone, it was rejoicing and being positive. This pleased me.
‘I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.’ Philippians 4:12
Psalm 32:11
Are we content with where God has placed us for His purposes? Or do we look at other peoples positions with an envious eye?
Father God, Help me to appreciate where You have placed me. I pray for a humble servants heart and that my attitude be one of joy and delight in You. Amen
