Having received a diagnosis of an aggressive and invasive cancer, it felt as though life had literally been pulled from underneath me.
I would take myself down the end of things; which for me was the jetty right at the bottom of Port Erin. Here I would stand and watch the storms, with the waves crashing and threatening me. But I would stand firm. This is what I endeavoured to translate into this painting.
The year of cancer treatment was gruelling and brutal. Fearful of the harm treatment would cause me, I chose to trust God to be my wrap-around defence. He gave me Psalm 84 to dwell in, particularly verse 6. His presence has become precious. In God’s abiding presence I was able to ‘Walk on Water’ in faith, and not sink under the trauma of it all.
I have been working on this painting for 3 whole years now, weaving into it my ongoing experience.
It is now complete.
