Earystane
As I walk the hills, I catch glimpses of distant fields, stone walls, and of course, the sweeping valleys.
The light moves across the land, and as clouds permit, breaks through, so the scene is always changing.
When I’m out there, I make quick studies in watercolour, which I then translate into larger oil paintings. This painting is an outpouring of what I absorbed whilst out there painting in the Earystane area; an area of outstanding beauty.
But it is not only the light that changes the appearance of the landscape!
I have faithfully painted this Island now for 43 years, and have seen many changes. Forests go up, and then they come down; revealing new previously unseen views. It is also the case with buildings. So in a way my work has been documenting these changes, and it is fascinating to look back on them.
I wanted to capture the beauty of this particular landscape, in case we loose it to the possible development of a wind farm.
