It is my practice to sit out in the landscape, or by the water’s edge, and paint.
My aim is to capture with fluidity and immediacy of what I see and feel whilst out there.
It is never my intention to paint the scene; rather capture the essence of it. I often work a few at the same time to prevent me from becoming too fussy, or of overworking them.
Whilst these Fluid Landscapes are studies, they stand in their own right as works of art.
Later, in the studio, I translate what I’ve captured into larger oil paintings, but never as larger expressions of the smaller work; always a fresh expression. Each painting takes on it’s own identity, and dictates where it is to go; and how it’s to be resolved.
