Grubby Windows

Seeing the light stream through this window so dramatically caused me to ponder. My attention was drawn, not to the light but to the dirt on the windows! I stood reflecting.

I had a lovely freind who used to teach that what we see in the natural is often a reflection of what is going on in the spiritual; or put another way – God will show us spiritual truths through what we see around us and I was seeing something for sure.

I saw also the cleaning products. Perhaps someone had attempted to clean these windows, or maybe the ongoing weather had thrown up fresh dirt?
However clean we are, there are always things we do that grieve God’s heart caused by life’s troubles and our ongoing struggles with temptation or incorrect thinking.

Over the years I have become more aware of the deceit of heart. Whilst we might think we are doing well, in truth we have hidden mindsets; ones that trip us up, and we need to be brave enough to allow God to shine His light in and expose them. But how is this done?
I believe the first step is to want to be pure. The second is to invite the Holy Spirit to examine us. For me this is best done through opening up my Bible and as I read, let the Word of God pierce my heart.

‘For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.’  Hebrews 4:12 (ESV)

And as King David put it…..

‘Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.  Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow…’ Psalm 51:2-7

With a simple prayer we can be really clean and God’s light can then shine through us bright and clear bringing glory to Him.
